MENDOZA

The Heart of Argentina Wine Country

Mendoza, in Argentina’s Cuyo region, is the capital of Mendoza Province. It is famed for Malbecs and other bold red wines. Its many bodegas (wineries) are popular for tastings and tours. The city has streets that are lined with modern and art deco buildings.

Bodega Piattelli Mendoza is located here, and takes full advantage of the optimal growing conditions.

Although the wine industry has many challenges as well. Import  barriers, and endless forms. Add to the list land ownership restrictions, unfamiliar taxes laws and corporate structure. Philippine de Rothschild was once famously quoted that the first 200 years in the wine making business is the most difficult. So there you have it. Encouraging words, something to live for and a country that will present some midlife challenging experiences.

1884 Restaurante

FRANCIS MALLMAN

The restaurant was born as a tribute to the wines of Mendoza and the Andean cuisine in 1996. The project stems from an idea by Dr. Nicolas Catena Zapata and Francis Mallmann. Francis is a world renowned chef and we believe him to be one of the best in the world. The menu has many Argentine inspired dishes, cooked over fire in Francis’ signature Siete Fuegos style, and more than a few are large enough to share.

Favorites include lechón (young pork) chivito (baby goat), and an incredible salted chicken that is cooked in a huge outdoor wood stove. And don't pass up an opportunity to have the ojo de bife for two. Starters are a must here as well. Be sure to order provoleta, empanadas, burnt carrots, and pear with burrata cheese. You will definitely want to bring your appetite for this meal.
